Sejong Center has been a gateway to Korean performing arts recognized as a world's famous performing stage as well as the only passage to international performing arts, and the cradle of Korean pure art in the 70s and 80s.
Sejong City is located in the heart of Korea with a long, narrow strip of land stretching from north to south. The areas that have undergone development separately with the Charyeong Mountain Range and the Geumgang River dividing them have recently been integrated into a single administrative area as a self-governing city.
With the support of national leaders in politics and business, the Sejong Institute was founded in the aftermath of the “Rangoon Incident” in December 1983. The founders believed that the pain and ordeal of the Korean people are derived from the division of the country and shared the desire to establish a specialized research organization to expedite peaceful national unification. This vision was realized with the inaugural meeting in November 1983.
